What sort of patients do we see?
On the Rehabilitation Ward we have 32 beds for rehabilitation and palliative care; ages range from 18 upwards. Local GPs may admit people to these beds and they are also available for the transfer of patients from acute hospitals for rehabilitation prior to returning home.
Medical cover arrangements
GP medical opinion is accessible for patients attending the Minor injuries Unit as required. On the Rehabilitation Ward, medical care is provided by GPs, with access to a Consultant Geriatrician for review. Out of hours medical cover is provided by Shropdoc.

Inpatient services
Number of beds
32 Rehabilitation Beds and 16 Older People's Mental Health beds.
Types of beds
Rehabilitation ward - 32 beds predominantly for Rehabilitation and End of Life Care.
Beech Mental Health Ward - a ward of 16 beds for elderly people with mental health problems. These beds are available for residents of North East Shropshire and referrals are made via Shelton Hospital. Medical care is provided by a Consultant Psychiatrist.

Visiting times
- Rehabilitation Ward - Monday to Sunday: 2.00pm - 4.00pm and 6.00pm - 8.00pm
- Beech Mental Health Ward - Visiting times are up till 8.00pm. Please avoid meal times for half an hour at 9.30am, 12.30pm and 5.00pm
Please report to the reception point on arrival.
It is preferable that there are only two visitors at the bedside at any one time. However there is a dayroom, reception area and conservatory, as well as the grounds in the summer, to take patients as long as they are mobile or able to sit in a wheelchair.
Please help us to protect our patients. If you have any symptoms including diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, raised temperature, headache and aching limbs, please do not visit the hospital until you have been free of symptoms for 48 hours.

What to bring if you are admitted
Any medicines you are already taking, toiletries, day and night clothes, walking aid if you have one.
Catering and meal times
Whitchurch Hospital offers inpatients an excellent choice of traditional food cooked fresh on site and snacks are available 24 hours per day. Special diets are catered for on request. Snacks and drinks are available on site from vending machines for visitors.
A trolley with sweets, squashes and toiletries visits the ward every Tuesday and Saturday.

What sort of patients does the Minor Injuries Unit see?
This is a walk in service available without an appointment for people requiring treatment for minor injuries such as simple lacerations, cuts or scrapes or minor burns. The service is led by a nurse with GP support as required. The Unit also provides a service for 24 hour blood pressure and heart monitoring, resting Electrocardiograms (ECGs) and spirometry which are accessed via GP referral. Local GPs also perform minor operations such as removal of small lumps, warts, skin tags and toe nails within the department.
Any severe injury or major trauma would be dealt with at a major accident and emergency department available at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.
